You said you have a personal hosted domain? Can you add an email alias or email mailbox in that domain and use that as the reply-to address instead? Even if Mailchimp's instructions don't cover sonic's membertools, you should be able to add the records they need.
I realized reading your message that I wasn't quite sure which type of authentication you meant... Whether you mean a record to authenticate to Mailchimp that you own the domain or adding email source authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) DNS records for mailchimp to the domain, I'm pretty sure Sonic wouldn't be willing to do that for the sonic.net domain. (I'm not speaking officially on that) Either one should be easy to do with your own domain using the membertools, though.
